Vintage Film Festival coming to your local public library

Cobourg program

For the first time, the VFF is presenting  mini festivals prior to the festival proper, in partnership with the Cobourg Public Library and the Port Hope Public Library. These events will be free of charge.

On Saturday, October 2 at the Cobourg Public Library there will be an all day festival featuring 4 full-length films. Screening hours will be 9.30 am to 5.00 pm.

9:30 My Little Chickadee Edward Cline W.C. Fields, Mae West      1940
The only film that Fields and West appeared in together. Wild Bill Fields and the Belle of the West knock sparks off each other.
11:00 BREAK     
11:15 Safety Last (silent) Fred C. Newmeyer Harold Lloyd      1923
This is one of Lloyd’s most celebrated films. It includes the famous dangling-from-the-clock scene.
12:30 BREAK     
1:30 Grand Hotel Edmund Goulding Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery      1932
A group of guests in a luxury Berlin hotel act out their issues. A dancer wants to be alone; an industrialist strives to avoid bankruptcy; a penniless baron resorts to theft. Lots of drama and romance. Today’s films should be this well-made.
